A passenger ship is a merchant ship whose main job is to transport people across the ocean.

Ocean liners are typically passenger or passenger-cargo ships that transport passengers and frequently cargo on longer line voyages. Passenger ships also include ferries, which are vessels for day-to-day or overnight short-sea trips moving passengers and vehicles (whether road or rail); and cruise ships, which frequently transport passengers on round-trips and where the trip itself, the attractions of the ship, and the ports visited, are the main draws.

Probably the most well-known example of this type is the Titanic.
