Bollards
Bollards served as sturdy mooring points for securing ropes and lines. These cylindrical or pillar-like structures were typically made of wood or metal and were strategically positioned along the ship’s deck or at the edges of the pier. Bollards provided a reliable and fixed point of attachment for securing the ship during docking, anchoring, or while loading and unloading cargo. Sailors would wrap ropes or lines around the bollards, often using various knots and hitches, to ensure a secure and stable connection. The design of bollards allowed for effective distribution of tension and forces, preventing the ship from drifting or moving undesirably.
